Strategic Plan & Roadmap

BSCS Science Learning

Colorado Springs, CO

Blue Dragonfly Labs is working with the BSCS FieldScope leadership to develop a three-year strategy and roadmap for the continued development of the FieldScope platform for citizen and community science

ABOUT FIELDSCOPE

FieldScope is an innovative GIS data collection and analysis platform, designed to support citizen science, grassroots advocacy, and other initiatives that want to collect data in dispersed geographic locations and see change over time, including the impact of their interventions.

FieldScope enables organizations, citizens, and learners to both monitor and actively address the issues, such as environmental and social challenges, concerning and engaging communities, regions, and countries around the globe. It empowers powerful analysis and storytelling through data, maps, visualizations and media, key tools of decision-making and advocacy that can help inform and activate the public and influence change-makers.

While social media is helpful in rallying people to support a cause or idea, FieldScope enables them to take action in the real world and share it online with powerful visualizations, and even track the impact of their actions over time in addressing the issue they care about. For learners, it is an applied and immersive experience in scientific inquiry and systems thinking. FieldScope is a powerful and empowering tool for learners, advocates, and decision-makers, and it is in active development and growth to expand its capabilities, impact, and reach.

OUR PROJECT WORK

FieldScope was created at National Geographic during our founder's ten-year tenure there overseeing digital strategy. It is now led by BSCS by some of the same former Nat Geo team, and they asked BDL to advise them on strategy.

Blue Dragonfly Labs is working with the BSCS FieldScope leadership to develop a three-year strategy and roadmap for the continued development of the FieldScope platform for citizen and community science, including:

  • New feature sets and tools for the platform

  • Research, user testing, and data insights

  • Integration strategies for FieldScope interaction with other BSCS infrastructure and partner digital assets

  • Guidance on the creation of assets and approaches for expanding the portfolio of citizen and community science projects using FieldScope through marketing, strategic partnerships, and outreach

  • Opportunities for strategic partnerships to support road map implementation through resource sharing, fundraising, or other means

BDL President Patricia Norris Malarkey is also a member of BSCS' FieldScope Advisory Board.
